Retirement of Ventura County Superior Court Judge Colleen Toy White

Dozens of attorneys, judges, family and friends gathered in Department 22 to attend the retirement reception of Ventura County Superior Court Judge Colleen Toy White on Friday, August 11, 2017.

Judge White has been an outstanding member of the bench. Judge White was elected to the Superior Court bench in June 1994. She is a past Presiding Judge and Assistant Presiding Judge, and a former Supervising Judge of the Family Law Division.

Judge White initiated many of the Ventura County Superior Court’s specialty court programs including Dependency Drug Court, Elder Law Court and Community Intervention Court.

Judge White spearheaded the Ventura Superior Court Veterans Intervention Program. The Ventura Veterans Intervention Court is a criminal court that provides veterans who face charges with the option to participate in treatment and services that include mental health, drug and alcohol treatment, rehabilitation and other life skills.

It was evident the lives that have been changed by the Veterans Intervention Program during Judge White’s retirement reception. Standing in front of judges, officers, prosecutors and defense attorneys, a military veteran spoke about his life being restored and attributed his success to the Veteran Intervention Program.

In 2013, Carolyn Diacos had the privilege to clerk and perform legal research for Judge White. Carolyn remembers military veterans often greeting Judge White with a huge hug and smile at their graduation from the Veteran Intervention Program.

Prior to being elected to the bench, Judge White practiced law as a Ventura County District Attorney. Judge White is a graduate of the Ventura College of Law.
